A Letter From Our CEO

April 14th, 2016

About 6 months ago, I took on the position of running the Kitayama Group which includes KB Farms and Greenleaf Wholesale Florist. This has been a huge challenge for me but one I feel uniquely qualified to undertake. I am excited about the work, the people, the challenges, and the opportunities, and I feel very fortunate to be a northern California flower grower.

Our business has changed, the market has changed, our customers have changed, and we are changing with them. We have a new leadership team, strategic plan, and implemented a new ERP system. The new system was installed on December 21st. Any company who has implemented a new ERP system understands what a challenges involved. We are now up and running, feeling comfortable with the system, and are excited about our improved ability to service our customers and manage our business.

There is no sugar coating the fact that being a domestic flower grower is challenging, but we believe in the future of our business. Some good news this year has been RAIN, RAIN, RAIN.  It is nice to see the reservoirs full again but we know the drought is not over, but let’s think “half full” and cross our fingers for continued rain in the future. We are not only a Santa Cruz County cut flower grower, but we also lease organic land and greenhouses for growing strawberries, herbs, and other emerging crops. We love growing flowers and will continue to be in the flower business, but we also recognize the importance of diversifying our future.

We are proud of our 68 year history and committed to the changing times. In that spirit, we are introducing a new logo, look, and feel that honors our past and captures our clean, green, modern future.

The future is bright! Thank you for your continued support.
